After searching the net for hours, this is the One-stop Shop for learning Portuguese!! The links to other places to learn Portuguese are the best part. Now I have tons of resources for learning and impressing my Brazilian girlfriend (minha namorada)! Marko, take Brazil off your "one day" list and go there! The country is magical and mystical. My wife, Denise and I were married in Ponta Grossa, Brazil on 9/1/01. This was my second time to Brazil (we had to take care of the wedding plans the first time). I am currently studying Portuguese to speak to my current in-laws and future children. I've studied and spoken Spanish for about six years, and because of an girlfriend a few years back, I became interested in learning Brasilian Portuguese. I've had no formal lessons, though, I only know what I've been able to teach myself & some from talking with Brasilian friends. (and from listening to Legião Urbana records!) I just got back from a 3 month stay with friends in Rio de Janeiro. I was in no way sure about what i was in for until i got there. The heat and humidity is intense! I was sweating 24/7.. Aside from this, the food, people and sights were amazing. Although my friends didnt allow me to go anywhere alone, i was happy enough to spend time walking around their neighborhood in Jacarepaque, truly an amazing place, with plenty of comida a kilo resturants and a brand new Habib's. Every sort of fresh fruit was also available. I discovered guaraná and maracujá, great drinks served cold, and agua de coco. Well, i am planning another trip next november and will be happy to spend another 3 months there. PS. I am realy surprised by the number of people that want to learn Portuguese. I am Brazilian and I am trying to improve my English. I became interested in Portuguese while doing programming for an upcoming cell phone that will have English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish. Getting good translations for techno-terms has been difficult. Please keep up the good work!

I spent four years in Brasil prior to 1970, but have not spoken much Portuguese since. I am starting back up and this seemed like an interesting place to start.

Good stuff! I wish I would have seen it before I went to Brazil for the first time, but I think it will come in handy when I return in a few months.

I was in Brasil in December 1994 through February 1995. I am seeking friends I made in Sao Paulo state. The town is called Monte Aprezivel outside of Sao Jose Do Rio Preto. A family I remember is Jose Antonio Rebeiro and his wife's name sounds like Idee or Hiede. If anyone knows how to find these people I would be so very grateful and happy. I recently enrolled in a Portuguese class in Tulsa to start January 2000. Before I start a language I like to review it a little. This site is very good. Some have been wondering what audio tapes to buy for Brazillian Portuguese. I have found that the Pimsleur unabridged Brazillian Portuguese tapes are helpful. They are expensive and only two sets are available I and II. No book is needed.

I love this site. I was in Brazil about 10 years ago and fell in love with the people, the language and the culture. I was already fluent in Spanish and could never find the right book or PC software to make the transistion between the two languages...I think it's almost harder to learn Portuguese if you already have a strong base in Spanish because its so easy to mix the two together. You've done a great job, I especially like the links to the newspapers it gives me the opportunity to read about what is happening in S. America unlike local US papers, which seem to be focused on domestic issues, the internet, the stock market or the Middle East. Also, I would be interested in hearing from anyone out there who has done medical mission work in S. America. I'm a doctor and would like to set up a mission. Thanks for the exhaustive work you have done here on your site! As one who knows, and wishes more Americans to know, Brazilian Portuguese is DEFINITELY not the same as the idion spoken on the continent. Is it because it is spoken over a larger land area? I don't know. I do find it analogous to the way we Americans speak a more forceful, dynamic English than our Brish counterparts…And Brazilian Portuguese definitely sounds more vibrant and, yes, romantic. I married a woman partly because I loved the lilting accent she had!One other point that would make other Brazilians happy about this site. Many Mineirans have enriched our culture here in the States, and they sure would love to see links to media from their homestate. Otherwise, this is one excellent site!

Hello there from Malaysia. I do have some Portugese blood in me. My paternal ancestors are known to have come from Portugal many many years ago during the Spice Trade era. Sorry to say that I am unable to converse in the Portugese language but found your site to interesting. The Portugese descendants in Malaysia are located in the Portugese Settlement in Malacca. They speak the native language of 'Cristao' or "Cristang' mixed with some local language. Do come and visit us.

I'm about 2 weeks from landing in Sao Paulo and using some of my spare time to learn a little bit of Portuguese. Since I am living in Korea right now, and teaching English here, there are very few sources to take advantage of to learn the basics of most languages (other than English). This has been a great starter.

Let me just start off by saying this website is the BOMB!!!I´m an american studying spanish here in Argentina. I´ve studied a littleportuguese on my own, but its so european, every brasilian I´ve met has hada hell of a time understanding me (of course it´s not b/c I´d never conversed b4 in portugues...)I figures that since I am done here in Argentina I might as well take advantage of the chance to learn Brasilian.I was about to go but a text book but thank god I found this website!!! It´s better then most text books!
